Organize a drive

Families have many challenges to face. If they have little money, those challenges can be overwhelming.
We rely on the community to help us meet the needs of impoverished families. Running a drive is a great way to help our neighbors meet their needs. Thank you so much for deciding to join our efforts in ending poverty in Santa Clara county!

Whether at school, work or with friends and families, if you follow these 4 easy steps you can organize a successful drive:
  1. Motivate your group with the knowledge that together you can provide families the opportunity to rise above poverty.
  2. Select an item to collect. We are always appreciative of any donation, but here’s a list of our most needed items. Pick a start and end date for the drive to let your friend, family or co-workers know when you are collecting items. Also, choose a drop off location that is convenient for most or ask donors to hold on to the items until a specific day. We can provide you with donation barrels to collect your items.
  3. Challenge your group to set a goal for how many items you wish to collect - then go out and beat your goal! Think of what the appropriate contribution per individual would be ($10 per person), then multiply that by how many contributors you’ll reach out to ($10x100 = $1000)  - and that’s your goal. Make sure to announce that the goal is based on 100% participation and that all donations, no matter how big or small, help to make a difference! Sacred Heart can help you spread the word with template letters, posters and brochures.
  4. Celebrate your group’s achievement by gathering all the collected items together and bringing them to Sacred Heart!

Here is an example of a drive that Notre Dame High School completed for SHCS.  The all-girls school decided to do a feminine hygiene drive as part of their spirit week!  Take a look....
