Promote your drive

There’s nothing more important to the success of a drives campaign than the promotion. There are many people out there who would like to contribute, but they don’t yet know how or where.

Outreach

Reach out to your neighbors, friends, family and co-workers and let them know about the drive that you’re doing. Feel free to use our template letter from the Resource Section. Spark their enthusiasm by emphasizing how through their efforts they’ll be providing more than a donated item, but the actual hope to those in need who feel alone in their plight. If someone cannot contribute with an in-kind or financial gift, then ask them to help you spread the word. Everyone can help!

Motivate

When doing drives with groups (be that at your company, faith congregation, school or sports club), it always helps to provide incentives to participants. Organize some healthy competition and offer a reward to the team/individual who contributes the most! Some ideas could be reserved parking, casual dress day, special recognitions in front of the congregation, or the opportunity to have a 1-1 dinner with the organization’s leader. Be creative!

Remind

People like knowing how the drive is doing. If nothing else, providing updates helps to remind people that the drive is still going on. How many times did you intend to bring something to school, work or church and just happened to forget as you were walking out the door? Don’t be afraid of reminding your participants that the drive is still going on, how close to your goal you are and, if you have a healthy competition going on between teams, then an update on how each team is doing.
