We registered 2,000 children today to receive backpacks!

Child in lineStarting at 11:00pm last night, people lined up at Sacred Heart Community Service to make sure they receive a backpack full of school supplies for their children.  When volunteers and staff began working with the families this morning, the line had already stretched around the block, with over 500 people in line.  Many had come to Sacred Heart for the first time because they had lost their jobs this past year, and had to look for help.  By 1:30 this afternoon, all the spaces were filled.

Now comes the challenge of gathering all the supplies to help these children.  On August 12, they will all return to pick up their backpack. We hope everyone in the Sacred Heart community will chip in by donating to the program, or running a drive to collect the paper, pens, notebooks and calculators we will need. Every child should have the tools they need to have a successful year in school. Help make that happen.

Here are the KCBS radio spots that are running today and tomorrow featuring Pack-A-Back Registration.
