What’s Going On?

There aren’t enough places for people to go—right now, 140 people are waiting for every shelter bed. One county executive said Mahan’s plan would be “ineffective and a distraction.” It won’t do anything to end homelessness. So why is he doing this? It seems like he just wants to scare unhoused people out of San Jose by using the police. 

Mahan’s Plan Is cruel and nonsensical, and we must fight to stop it. 

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan wants to put unhoused people in jail if they don't go where he wants them to go.

Even the police say that most people would just be arrested and released without getting any real help. Instead of working to build real homes, Mayor Mahan’s plan focuses on blaming and punishing people just for being poor. If this plan moves forward, the people and neighborhoods we care about will suffer the most.
